Planning a bachelor party long weekend, preferably somewhere quite snowy. Whistler possibly. At least one trip to WVA and the rest of my time will be spent at Cat or App. Maybe a little Beech in there too.

I am super excited for the upcoming season!

I now live in Ohio so instead of being on the far south side of SkiSE territory, I am now on the north side which is a step in the right direction for at least being able to get some sort of turns in most every weekend. There are three 300 foot hills 1:00-1:15 from Columbus, and a 400 foot hill within 2 hours that get between 25-55 inches of natural each season. While that is not exactly world class these places have double the vertical of Cloudmont, colder weather, more natural snow, better terrain (like 10 runs each), AND chairlifts instead of a ropetow! As you can see I am taking a glass half-full approach to the local skiing. I plan to hit these places up every now and then after work or on weekends when not going somewhere else. I plan to do some work on my park skillz!

Also, I am 5 hours from the Cannan Valley WV ski areas as well as 5 hours from Blue Knob PA. I am planning to call in sick when the snow is good to take advantage these two areas. I'm sure hoping that these areas have a big season. I'm going to try to stay away from planning trips to these areas weeks or months in advance, because I want to be there when the snow is good. Also, in the mix are some areas like Holiday Valley, NY or Swain Mountain in Western NY about 6 hours away. I hope to make a trip to these areas about once a month between December and March.

Finally, the best thing I'm planning to do is go to Schweitzer again this season. My sister-in-law has a job there again from September to May which means I'll have a free place to stay, a number of free lifties, and no need for a rental car which is all pretty awesome! I plan to go up there twice. Once for a week around MLK and then again later in the season in March. While being based out of Schweitzer I plan to get up to Whitewater BC and Red Mountain BC 3 hours away. Lifties and Lodging are pretty cheap at these areas in BC. There are other great mom and pop areas within 2 hours of Schweitzer that will be in the mix.

I also plan to do some touring and may take an Avi 1 class. On paper this could be shaping up to be my best season evar! Also, I need to actually meet somebody from this message board. I'm up to almost 1,000 posts and I have never met anybody! Hopefully it will be nuking in Cannan Valley and we can meet up or even split a room.

My goals for this season now that I'm only an hour or so out from Boone:
1. Find some better used boots (as in, better than Beech's group rental set) and some better used skis.
3. Find someone or several someones in the Hickory area that can drive and want to go skiing.
4. Cat Can-u-ski.
5. Sugar and Beech day trips at college rates.
6. Please, Timberline, have your college deal again! Stay at Purple Fiddle, ski Timberline for less than $40/day plus food. I get out of school Dec. 15. Do the math.
7. Ski class at LR as a P.E. credit.
8. Snowshoe Summit? NC Summit?

I'm debating getting a Beech season pass, but I'm hoping my season breaks down like this: Can-U-Ski, two evenings at Sugar, two evenings at Beech, a week or so at Timberline at college rates, lessons at App, ten evenings at Beech, three evenings at Sugar, and maybe a day at Winterplace, Wintergreen, Wolf, SummitShoe, wherever. Since I can't go whenever I want to (don't have a car) I can't expect to go to just one resort. I do hope to go at least one evening per week during the season.
